On a slow or spotty connection?

Submit a product for honest review.

We review gear that actually helps households through real disruptions. If your product is genuinely useful, we want to know about it.

We publish independent reviews. Submitting a product does not guarantee a review, a positive review, or any review at all. You won't see a draft before it goes up, you don't get a say in what it says, and we don't sell coverage. If we find problems, we say so.

What we look for

Real household utility

Does it work for a household dealing with a power outage, a boil advisory, or a quick evacuation? That's the test.

Safety and certification

We check UL listings, NSF certifications, and real-world safety records — not just spec sheets.

Honest value

We evaluate whether the price makes sense for what you get. Budget gear that works beats expensive gear that doesn't.

How it works

01

Submit the form

Send us your product details using the form below.

022–3 weeks

We review it

Our editorial team looks over your submission. This usually takes 2–3 weeks.

03

We arrange testing

If selected, we set up hands-on product testing or an AI-research review.

04

We publish honestly

You get an honest review — positive, mixed, or critical.

How we label every review

We tell readers exactly how we got the product and how we evaluated it. Here are the three ways that happens.

Purchased independently

We bought it ourselves. No manufacturer involvement.

Provided for review

You send us the product. We test it independently. You have no input on the outcome.

Researched

We aggregate verified purchase reviews and editorial sources. Editorially verified by our team.

What you're agreeing to

Plain language, no surprises. Send us something and these are the ground rules.

Coverage is never guaranteed

A package showing up doesn't buy an article, a video, or a mention. We pick what to cover based on whether it helps a household get through a real disruption, and nothing else. Plenty of good products never get written up simply because we had something more useful to publish that month.

No previews, no vetoes

You won't see a draft, a video cut, our testing notes, or a rating before it publishes. You can't request changes and you can't pull a review once it's up. That isn't us being difficult — a review a manufacturer can edit isn't worth reading, and our readers can tell the difference.

Warts and all

If the fan is loud, the app is a mess, the latches feel flimsy, or it trips under a load it claims to handle, we write that down. We don't soften test results to keep anyone happy. Send us hardware knowing a critical review is a real possible outcome.

No paid reviews, ever

We don't sell review slots, sponsored verdicts, or placement tied to positive coverage. If your team wants paid consulting, that's a separate conversation.

What happens to the unit

Unless we've agreed otherwise in writing before you ship, we keep it. Retained gear goes into our working reference lab for long-term testing, gets compared against newer models, gets run until it fails, gets donated to local volunteer emergency groups, or goes to a reader in our monthly subscriber drawing. We're not a warehouse, and packing and shipping returns is real work.

If you need it back

Tell us in writing before you ship, and cover the whole return: prepaid, insured freight labels and packaging that will survive the trip, within 90 days of testing wrapping up. We'll hold it and send it back. What we won't do is absorb the cost or the admin of a return nobody arranged in advance.

Normal testing wear isn't our liability

Real testing means heat, discharge cycles, repeated charging, and actual use outdoors. Expect a returned unit to show it: scuffs, a battery that no longer holds its first-day capacity, honest signs of work. We're careful with other people's property, but we won't pretend testing is cost-free.

Pre-market hardware stays private

If you want engineering feedback on something unreleased, we'll test it under an NDA and give you our notes directly. We won't publish a review of a product a household can't walk out and buy. Once the retail version ships, we're glad to look at the finished thing.

Safety compliance and holding us harmlessUnder legal review

High-voltage batteries, fuel-burning equipment, and water treatment gear carry real physical risk. By sending a product you're confirming it meets the federal safety standards that apply to it — UL, ETL, FCC, whichever fit — and you're agreeing that Prepping-Essentials and our parent company, Divi Media, aren't liable for a battery fire, property damage, or equipment failure during evaluation.

Honest criticism is not disparagementUnder legal review

By submitting, your company gives up any right to bring a commercial disparagement claim over accurate, good-faith test results and honest critical opinion. This exists so an unflattering review can't be answered with a lawyer's letter. It does not cover getting a fact wrong. If we do, tell us — we'll check it against the source, and where we're wrong we'll fix the page and say what changed. Raising a factual error is not something you give up here, and it's the fastest way to get it corrected.

Unsolicited shipmentsUnder legal review

Please write first. Anything that turns up without us confirming it in writing is treated as abandoned property, and we'll handle it the same way we handle retained gear. We can't track, store, or return packages we never agreed to receive.

Photos and marketing images you send usUnder legal review

If you send us product photos, you're confirming your company actually owns them or has full rights to hand them to a press outlet like us — and you're giving us permission to use them in our coverage. If a photo came from an outside photographer that never signed those rights over to you, that's on your side to sort out before sending it our way.

These terms: submission-terms-2026-09-19. We record which version you agreed to and when. The three sections marked under legal review are plain-language summaries of the formal wording our attorney is finalizing — the substance won't change, but the exact language will, and we'll bump this version when it does.

Tell us about your product

The more clearly you can describe what it does in a real moment, the better. There are no fees, and filling this out doesn't commit you to anything.

0/500

A link to UL, ETL, or FCC documentation moves a submission along faster than anything else you can send us.

Spec sheets, manuals, safety certificates, or product photos. PDF, DOC, DOCX, PNG, JPG or WEBP — up to 3 files, 10MB each.

We test pre-market hardware privately, under an NDA, and give you the engineering feedback. We do not publish a review until the retail version is something a household can actually buy.

What happens to the unit afterwards?

Tick the terms box above to send your submission.

A real person reads every submission, and you'll hear back within two weeks either way. We don't sell your information or use it for any purpose other than evaluating your submission.

We are not a pay-to-play platform. There are no listing fees, no guaranteed placement, and no sponsored review packages. Our editorial independence is the only thing that makes our reviews worth reading.
